ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court of Islamabad on Tuesday remanded senior journalist and Bol News Islamabad Bureau Chief Siddique Jan into police custody for one day, Bol News reported.

On this occasion, Siddique Jan said to the judge that whatever order he would give would be accepted to him. He said he was not given anything to eat or drink since he was arrested. The court has sent Jan and his friend Idrees Chachar into police custody.

The court also granted relatives of the journalist permission to meet him.

During the hearing, the court inquired police about his role in the case. Police’s lawyer said he was stopping police from performing the duty.

Jan’s counsel Mian Ashfaq said viewing the video on which the case was based one could not make a case. You should watch the video and tell if a case could be file on its basis, he said.

He said nowhere in the video it was said that police should not open fire. He said the sections mentioned in the FIR were bailable.

Siddique Jan said journalists only said that teargas shelling would return to them so they should not fire them to their side.

“We even rescued one police man who was madly coughing due to teargas. On one hand we favour you and on the other hand you fire teargas shell on us,” he said.

The Bol News bureau chief also said that apart from police personnel other people were also involved in his arrest.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Tuesday said Bol News Islamabad Bureau Chief Siddique Jan and Barrister Hassaan Niazi were among 500 people who were arrested in the last two days, Bol News reported.

Talking to ‘Dunya Bol Hai’, Fawad Chaudhry said the democracy was breathing its last, so let’s see if we could save it. “Whoever stands by the truth is detained. Last night, Siddique Jan was on a phone call with me, when he was abducted,” he said.
