Shaheen Shah Afridi hit the winning score for Lahore Qalandars in Saturday’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8 final versus Multan Sultans in Lahore.

When Shaheen elected to bat, Lahore were reduced to 112-5. Nobody expected Shaheen to make a game-changing appearance.

Lahore scored 200-6 in 20 overs thanks to the left-handed batter’s 44 runs off 15 balls. As Shaheen joined Abdullah Shafique at the crease, the expected score was approximately 160.

Fans of Shahid Afridi, a former Pakistani hard-hitting batter, were brought to mind by Shaheen’s gallant performance.

Shaheen and Abdullah quickly struck 66 runs in only 27 balls to help Lahore set Multan a lofty 201-run mark.

In addition to Shaheen, Abdullah played a smart knock. He hit two maximums and eight boundaries in his 65 runs off 40 balls.

Ihsanullah bowled opener Tahir Baig out with a cutting short ball after Lahore made 34 runs in the opening three overs of the game. In 18 balls, the right-hander scored 30 runs.

Multan was able to stop the flow of runs as Lahore reached 82-1 at the midway point thanks to the wicket and some solid bowling.

When Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique sought to speed up their scoring, Multan destroyed their plans with four quick wickets, scoring 57 runs in 38 balls for the second wicket.

Usama Mir, a leg-spinner, took three wickets in his first two overs, including Zaman (39), Sam Billings (9), and Ahsan Hafeez (0).

Sikandar Raza (1) was dismissed by Khushdil Shah in the meantime with a ball that slid past the infield and slammed into the batter’s stumps.
