Coincidences do really happen in life as well as sports!
One such happened in the just-completed Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8 Final. The match was played between the last year’s champions, Lahore Qalandars, and Multan Sultan.
Having won the toss, Shaheen Shah Afridi decided to go with the bat. This decision was backed by the outstanding performance of the Qalandars in Eliminator 2 against Peshawar Zalmi.
The Qalandars gave their all after tasting a ruthless 84-run defeat against the Sultans in the Qualifiers.
Both sides clashed in the season opener, and then in the Final. However, the results for both games were the same. The Qalandars won the first game by 1 run as well as the final.
Coincidently, both the matches had run-outs in the final over. During the first encounter, Sultan’s Usama Mir (0) was run out by Liam Dawson. While in the final, Khushdil Shah (25) was run out by David Wiese.
In both matches, the last over was bowled by Qalandars’ Zaman Khan. Also, Khushdil was in the final over of both matches.
The Qalandars posted a target of 201 for the loss of six wickets. The reigning champions restricted the Sultans to 199, taking eight wickets.
