Eli Roth is finally putting the turkey in the oven after 16 years after the publication of his false trailer for Grindhouse. The Hostel director and Sony Pictures confirmed that Thanksgiving’s horror slasher film has started shooting.
The creators posted an image of Roth’s director’s chair with an ax that was sharpened and prepared to start some carving to signal the start of the filming.
For years, Roth has teased that Thanksgiving would become a reality, only to make good on that promise earlier this year when it was revealed he’d be directing the project.

The fake trailer, set in a Massachusetts town where Thanksgiving is taken very seriously, paid homage to the (mostly) bygone era of holiday-themed slasher films. It was bizarre and gory, and it saw the town become a proverbial carving board for an outsider looking to murder. The short trailer is one of the enduring memories of Grindhouse, utilizing a number of old-school slasher tropes as well as a borderline-comedic number of decapitations, with plenty of shocking moments including the grand finale of a head separated from its body and now sticking out of a turkey.
A star-studded cast will join Roth and Rendell for Thanksgiving dinner, including Patrick Dempsey, who is expected to play the town sheriff. Also starring in the film will be Addison Rae with Jalen Thomas Brooks, Milo Manheim, Nell Verlaque, Gina Gershon, Tim Dillon, and Hostel alum Rick Hoffman rounding out the cast.
Gershon comes over from Borderlands, where she’ll be playing fan favorite Mad Moxxi. On the production side, Roth and Rendell will be joined by Roger Birnbaum, who previously worked with the director on his ill-fated Bruce Willis-led film Death Wish.
