FIFA 2030: Spain and Portugal looks to add Morocco in their bid

  • Spain and Portugal to include Morocco in their bid.
  • Luis Rubialesmet with Fouzi Lekjaato discuss agreement.
  • There have been number of bids put for 2030 World Cup.

According to rumours, Spain and Portugal will try to bolster their proposal by include Morocco in their effort to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup finals.

The 73rd FIFA Congress, which will be held in Rwanda on Thursday, according to Xinhua, will likely witness the signing of an agreement between the Spanish and Portuguese and Moroccan that has been the subject of negotiations, according to the Spanish sports newspaper Diario AS.

Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish Football Association, came to Morocco on Monday to discuss the agreement’s specifics with Fouzi Lekjaa, the head of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.

There have been a number of bids put up so far for the 2030 World Cup, and Morocco has also been mentioned as a potential bidder along with Tunisia and Algeria. Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Chile might jointly submit a bid, and Greece, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia are also rumoured to be getting ready to do so.

Since that much of the infrastructure is already in place and there are top-notch grounds in all three countries, a cross-continental bid from Spain, Portugal, and Morocco would have many benefits. Meanwhile, travel would be simpler than with other proposals due to their close proximity.

Like with the 2026 World Cup, which will be contested in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the 2030 World Cup will feature 48 teams, expanding the opportunity to have more stadiums.
