Two boats that capsized off the coast of California, San Diego claimed the lives of at least eight persons, according to emergency authorities.

The boats had problems off Black’s Beach in San Diego, according to the city’s fire department.

A 911 caller reported that while she and eight other passengers had made it to shore aboard a boat, an additional boat carrying eight to ten passengers had capsized.

According to local media, it was believed that migrants were aboard the boats.

Two overturned boats with bodies scattered over a 400-yard radius were discovered by emergency responders from several organizations (366m).

On Sunday morning, San Diego Fire-Rescue reported that the search effort was still ongoing.

The San Diego Union-Tribune said that the boats were thought to be transporting people and that the search operations had been complicated by dense fog.
