ChatGPT has been unavoidable in recent months, and it appears that Microsoft is going to refresh the AI tool with an update that will drive it back into the spotlight. That’s because the business plans to release GPT-4 as soon as next week, with the ability to make AI-generated films from simple text cues.
Andreas Braun, Chief Technical Officer at Microsoft Germany, announced the announcement during a recent event titled “AI in Focus: Digital Launch” (via Heise). Braun claims, “We will introduce GPT-4 next week… “We will have multimodal models that will offer completely different possibilities — for example, videos.”
The underlying large language model technology that drives apps like ChatGPT is GPT-4. ChatGPT can currently only respond in text form, but an upcoming version appears to change that.
ChatGPT will not be the first tool to produce AI-generated videos. Meta, the owner of Facebook, launched Make-A-Video in 2022, which makes realistic videos based on short text prompts. According to what I’ve heard, the next version of ChatGPT may be able to perform something similar.
AI videos, music, and more
Microsoft stated at the AI presentation that GPT-4 would be “multimodal.” According to Holger Kenn, Director of Business Strategy at Microsoft Germany, this will enable the company’s AI to translate a user’s text into graphics, audio, and video.
Microsoft demonstrated how a call center could use GPT-4 to automatically translate phone conversations between employees and customers into text, saving significant time and effort that would otherwise be spent summarizing the talks after they finished.

Despite widespread interest and long wait lists, Microsoft made no mention of its incorporation of ChatGPT into its Bing web browser. Given all of the current turmoil, it’s possible the corporation felt it was too sensitive a subject.
Nonetheless, with GPT-4 reportedly releasing as soon as next week, we may not have long to wait to see what the next version of ChatGPT is capable of — and whether Microsoft can resolve any lingering issues with its AI assistant.
