Paris 2024: 3.25 million tickets sold in first sales phase

  • Olympic Games saw total of 3.25 million sold.
  • 45% of ticket buyers were women.
  • Over 10 million tickets will be made available.

The first sales phase of tickets for the Olympic Games in Paris saw a total of 3.25 million sold, according to the organisers.

For the first time in the Olympic Games’ history, tickets were made available globally through a single platform. In the first phase, which saw supporters from 158 nations and regions register for the sale, tickets were offered in packs over three weeks.

“The public response to the first phase of Games ticket sales was truly phenomenal. With over 3.2 million tickets sold in less than three weeks, take-up exceeded all expectations, for which we are very grateful,” Paris 2024 president Tony Estanguet said on Thursday.

45% of ticket buyers were women, a relatively high percentage in Olympic history given that Paris 2024 would be the first Olympic Games to feature an equal number of male and female participants. The French people accounted for two-thirds of ticket buyers.

Tickets for climbing and BMX freestyle sold out on day one, while fencing, judo, breaking, and track cycling tickets were all gone within a short period of time.

Over 10 million tickets will be made available for the Olympic Games, and 80% of them will be sold directly to the general public through the official ticketing website.

The subsequent round of sales, for single tickets, will start with a draw registration period running from March 15 to April 20. Those chosen may purchase tickets starting on May 11. The remaining tickets will be made available in real-time on a first-come, first-served basis at the end of 2023 and into 2024.

The second round will also offer access to 70,000 more tickets for the opening ceremony on the Seine.
