PESHAWAR: The deadlock between the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) remains intact after the consultation on elections at the Governor’s House in KP today.
A consultation meeting held at the Governor’s House regarding elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ended without a consensus on the election date.
During the meeting, the Election Commission team briefed Governor KP and informed the Governor about the costs and other issues related to the elections in the province.
Sources privy to the matter said that the consultation on the date for the general election in the two-hour-long meeting has entered the final stages, but another meeting will be held again next week for final decisions.
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will go for final consultation in Islamabad next week, added the sources.
It is pertinent to mention that the team, nominated by the Election Commission, included Secretary Election Commission Omar Hamid Khan, Special Secretary Election Commission Zafraqbal Hussain and Director General Law Arshad Khan attended the meeting.
In addition, Principal Secretary for Governor Mahmood Hassan from the Governor’s Secretariat, and Additional Secretary for Governor Saif -ul -Islam were also present at the occasion.
