Firmus announces price cut but no change by SSE Airtricity

  • Firmus Energy has reduced its gas prices by around a fifth from April.
  • Saving consumers in the Ten Towns £335 annually.
  • And Greater Belfast £433 annually.

Firmus Energy has stated that its gas prices will decline again this year, this time by around a fifth from April.

The change reflects the decline in wholesale gas costs, which have been declining since last year’s end and are currently at roughly £1.10 per therm.

One of Northern Ireland’s two gas suppliers is Firmus Energy.

The Utility Regulator has confirmed that the other company, SSE Airtricity, will not be lowering its rate in April.

Over 110,000 people use Firmus Energy in Northern Ireland, and the company dropped its tariffs by about a fifth in January.

Prices will decrease by 18.84% for customers in the Ten Towns network area, which includes Antrim, Armagh, Ballymena, Coleraine, Craigavon, Londonderry, and Newry.

Prices will decrease by 22.43% from April for those living in Greater Belfast, which includes Lisburn, Bangor, Larne, Comber, Newtownabbey, and Carrickfergus.

According to Firmus Energy, this will save consumers in the Ten Towns £335 annually and those in Greater Belfast £433 annually.

Niall Martindale, the company’s CEO, stated: “We previously promised our clients that we would drop our pricing as soon as market conditions permitted us to do so.

We at Firmus are working hard to bring about positive change for our 110,000 loyal and valued clients, and we are aware of the larger cost of living concerns within the areas we serve.

The Utilities Regulator, which oversees the energy sector in Northern Ireland, and the company, Firmus Energy, conducted an assessment in January that led to the price reduction.
