ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has dismissed the petition to remove Imran Khan as chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI), Bol News reported

A three-member commission presided by the chief election commissioner heard the case. Imran Khan’s counsel Barrister Gohar appeared before the ECP and submitted his response in the election commission.

The chief election commissioner inquired if the court had stopped the ECP from hearing in the case. Barrister Gohar replied that the high court had stopped the ECP from taking any strict action. The CEC said holding a hearing was not strict action. “No court has stopped the ECP from hearing the case,” he said.

The lawyer appeared on behalf of the applicant Muhammad Afaq before the ECP. Afaq’s lawyer said the notices sent by the ECP were received on wrong address and date. The action was a mistake of the ECP, he added.

On speaking in high voice, the ECP criticized the lawyer. “You cannot pressurize us by speaking in high voice,” the CEC said. The ECP expelled the lawyer of Muhammad Afaq from the court room and dismissed the plea requesting annulment of Imran Khan’s chairmanship.

On February 15, the case of the removal of Imran Khan from party chairmanship was heard in the election commission and the commission had sought an answer from the PTI chief before the next hearing.
