Joe Biden may not attend King Charles’ coronation

  • Joe Biden might decide not to attend King Charles’ coronation.
  • The United States will be represented at the coronation.
  • “The coronation “does not feel like an event Joe Biden will attend”.

White House sources have said that it is still unclear whether the 80-year-old US president will attend the official crowning of the queen on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London with his wife, Queen Consort Camilla.

The United States will be represented at the coronation, a top administration official assured People magazine.

They were unable to determine if it would be done through the president or through a delegation, though.

Nothing has been announced “about potential delegation or presidential travel at this time,” they continued.

The remarks follow a few days ago’s Time magazine report that the lawmaker was unlikely to attend the coronation.

The coronation “does not feel like an event Joe Biden will attend,” an unnamed White House insider told the publication, emphasising that the president’s schedule for May has not yet been decided.

Joe, who is renowned for being proud of his Irish heritage, is eager to travel to Ireland next month to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement as well as to see family in Mayo and Louth, according to the Sunday Telegraph newspaper. This makes a second transatlantic trip a few weeks later less likely.

The coronation’s official invitations are anticipated to be distributed in April, by which time the US President is likely to have finalised his trip to Ireland, which is anticipated to take place on April 18.

Dwight Eisenhower, the American president at the time, did not attend the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth, who passed away in September. Instead, a delegate represented the US in his place.
