Despite intense and ongoing Russian attacks, Ukrainian troops have stabilised the front line in Bakhmut in recent days, according to a deputy commander in Ukraine’s National Guard on Saturday.

According to Volodymyr Nazarenko of the Svoboda battalion, Russian forces have not crossed the Bakhmutka River, and the city centre remains under Ukrainian control.

“Every hour in Bakhmut is like hell. The enemy had successes in the north, northwest of Bakhmut a week ago. Ukrainian soldiers are fighting back. Over the past few days, the front line has been stabilized thanks to our hard work and efforts,” Nazarenko told Ukrainian broadcaster Kyiv24.

The Kostiantynivka-Bakhmut road is under Ukrainian control near the village of Ivanivske, southwest of Bakhmut. “They are putting in enormous effort,” he said.

Due to a lack of ammunition, Russian forces are resorting to “chaotic shelling” and attempting to bomb supply lines. He added that Moscow’s troops still have more ammunition than the Ukrainians.
