With the help of a Limited Collector’s Edition release, Netflix and Capelight Pictures will bring Edward Berger’s harrowing anti-war classic All Quiet on the Western Front to home cinemas in the best possible condition. A normal HD Blu-ray and a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray are included in the two-disc mediabook release for the best possible viewing in the original German audio with Dolby Atmos audio of the original and 4K Dolby Vision image. Prior to the March 28 release of the special edition, pre-orders are currently accepted.

The mediabook packaging comes with two discs in addition to an additional 24-page booklet with a wealth of backstory and interviews about the making of the movie. A talk with Berger titled “Sharing the German Viewpoint” and a lengthy interview with historian and professor Daniel Schönpflug titled “A Machine of Death Unlike Any Experienced Before” that delves into the background of All Quiet on the Western Front are also included inside. Particularly when it came to the peace treaty negotiations that included a historical figure in Matthias Erzberger, Berger performed extensive study to lend further background to the original story.

The book ought to provide additional insight into Berger’s thinking over how to depict the suffering of young German soldiers while also highlighting the finer details of World War I’s end.

The movie, which is based on the renowned anti-war book by Erich Maria Remarch, follows 17-year-old Paul Bäumer (Federic Kammerer, in a remarkable film debut) and his friends as they ecstatically embark on the war in 1917, full of hopes that they will quickly defeat the French army for the Fatherland and march into Paris as heroes and victorious. Days later, when they arrive at the Western Front, reality sets in.

They are forced to battle for their life while their fellow soldiers perish around them while trapped in the swamp-like trenches and subjected to the French army’s ruthless bombardments. Berger depicts a devastating image of how governments incite young to go to war before the troops discover too late the awful tragedy that awaits them on the battlefield, together with script co-writers Ian Stokell and Lesley Paterson.

Albrecht Schuch, Edin Hasanovic, Aaron Hilmer, Moritz Klaus, Adrian Grünewald, and Devid Striesow are fighting with Kammerer on the front lines. Daniel Brühl plays a part in the effort to call a truce to end the war in the movie. Thibault De Montalembert, Anton von Lucke, and Andreas Döhler complete the cast.

What is All Quiet on the Western Front All the Fuss About?

As All Quiet dominated the BAFTAs, the limited edition release coincides with awards season. With 14 nominations, the German movie tied Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon’s previous record for the most BAFTA nominations for a non-English language film. Additionally, it was able to take home an incredible seven victories, including the Best Picture and Best Director awards for Berger. The picture will next be seen at the Oscars, where it will compete against other award-winning heavyweights like Everything Everywhere All At Once and The Banshees of Inisherin for nine prizes, including the coveted Best Picture honour.
