  • Islamabad was unable to establish a partnership and struggled to get going.

Lahore Qalandars crushed Islamabad United by 110 runs in the 16th game of the ongoing eighth season of the Pakistan Premier League (PSL) at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Monday.

After deciding to bat first, Lahore set a lofty aim of 201 runs before dismissing Islamabad for 90 runs in 13.5 overs, all owing to outstanding innings by Abdullah Shafique and some outstanding bowling from David Wiese and Sikandar Raza.

Apart from the opening stand of 41 runs between Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Colin Munro in response to the large total, Islamabad was unable to establish a partnership and struggled to get going.

As openers Colin Munro and Gurbaz (23) helped Islamabad get off to a solid start, Zaman Khan gave Lahore a much-needed victory.

Gurbaz mistimed a slow, short bowl from Zaman, and Fakhar Zaman responded with a blinder to send the Afghan hitter back to the pavilion.

Gurbaz left shortly after Shaheen introduced David Wiese, who defeated Colin Munro and brought Islamabad’s score to 54-2.

The left-handed batter needed only 14 balls to score 18 runs.

In the following over, Rassie van der Dussen (3) was sent packing by fiery pacer Haris Rauf.

After a successful review, Wiese once again delivered, sending Islamabad’s captain Shadab Khan (4) back to the pavilion.

Islamabad continued to lose wickets. Asif Ali attempted to increase the run rate by going for a six but was ultimately caught by Haris off Rashid Khan.

Wiese trapped Azam Khan for a lbw, adding to Islamabad’s woes. The wicket-keeper hitter, who had previously amassed 96 runs against the Quetta Gladiators, was dismissed after scoring just four runs.

By bowling Tom Curran, the wizard Rashid scored his second of the evening (10).

In the fourteenth over, Hasan Ali, Abrar Ahmed, and Zeeshan Zameer were returned.

Wiese collected three wickets for Lahore, while Rashid and Raza each claimed two victims. Each wicket was secured by Zaman and Haris.

Lahore Qalandars had earlier set Islamabad United a 201-run goal.

Lahore Qalandars got off to a strong start against Islamabad United thanks to Tahir Baig and Fakhar Zaman. For the first wicket, the two batters cobbled together a 58-run goal.

To counter this, Shadab Khan knocked out Tahir after he had scored 20 runs off of 17 balls, providing Islamabad with a much-needed breakthrough.

Fakhar was out in the following over by Tom Curran. The ball fell the stumps after an inside edge as the left-handed hitter attempted to go for a bid stroke.

Nonetheless, the assault persisted as Sam Billings and Abdullah Shafique kept scoring goals.

Sam and Abdullah combined for a brilliant 71 runs off just 38 balls. The important partnership was broken, though, when Curran struck again and dismissed Abdullah, who was caught by Rahmanullah Gurbaz at midwicket.

After making 45 runs off 24 balls, including four boundaries and two maximums, the 23-year-old was dismissed.

The next batter to leave the game was Billings after his countryman defeated him. 33 runs were scored by the right-handed batsman on 23 balls.

David Weise (12) entered the crease after Billings left, but Abrar Ahmed yanked him away.

Rashid Khan, a spinner, also made a significant cameo with 18 runs, including two boundaries and a six. nonetheless, Hasan Ali won.

Sikandar Raza, an all-rounder, scored 23 runs off 10 balls in the meanwhile.

The earlier toss had been won by Lahore, who chose to bat first against Islamabad.

Both teams will be fired up after their recent emphatic victories. In Karachi, United overcame Quetta Gladiators, while yesterday night in Lahore, Qalandars triumphed over Peshawar Zalmi.
