The Haunting gets 4k Blu-ray release date

  • The Haunting will be available on 4K Blu-ray on May 30.
  • The movie has a 17% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
  • Pre-ordering the movie on the Scream Factory website will get you a free poster.

While modern horror fans are currently experiencing a revival, more and more horror movies from the late 1990s and early 2000s are emerging as cult favorites. This also applies to Jan de Bont’s 1999 adaptation of The Haunting. Now, courtesy to Scream Factory, the movie adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s classic book The Haunting of Hill House, published in 1959, will be available on 4K Blu-ray on May 30.

Similar to the book, the movie centers on four strangers who wind up stranded in the eerie Hill House estate following a disastrous scientific experiment. The cast of this remake is noteworthy. A-list actors including Liam Neeson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Owen Wilson, Lili Taylor, and Virginia Madsen are all present in The Haunting.

Despite the fact that Neeson had just finished films like Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Schindler’s List, for which he was nominated for an Oscar, this cast was still somewhat unheard of at the time. It’s one of the many reasons to watch the movie again because critics hated it when it came out in 1999. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a meager 17% rating. All of this is true despite the remake’s respectable box office performance.

Scream Factory’s May 30 release of The Haunting 4K Blu-ray combo pack will cost $29.99. Although the bonus features have not yet been revealed, pre-ordering the movie on the Scream Factory website will get you a free poster with the original artwork for The Haunting.
