After being charged in connection with her death, Hong Kong socialite Abby Choi‘s ex-husband and former in-laws appeared in court.

Her ex-husband Alex Kwong, Kwong’s brother Anthony, and their father Kwong Kau are among those charged.

Kwong’s mother, 63, was accused of impeding the investigation. Bail was denied to all of them.

The 28-year-old was reported missing on Wednesday, and Hong Kong has been outraged by the terrible circumstances of her death.

Choi’s skull was discovered on Sunday in a three-story house in the remote Tai Po district, just days after her other body parts were discovered there – around 27km (17 miles) from where she was last seen in Kowloon City on Tuesday.

An electric saw and a meat cutter were also discovered at the scene.

Police superintendent Alan Chung told sources that it is believed Choi and her former in-laws had many money conflicts involving “huge sums”.

Alex Kwong was apprehended on Saturday while attempting to flee the city via boat, according to authorities. His parents and older brother had been detained the day before.

Choi and Alex Kwong had two children.

She had recently appeared on the cover of L’Officiel Monaco – a fashion and luxury lifestyle magazine – and is reported to have been a well-known socialite in Hong Kong.
