The Bhiku Mhatre role altered Manoj Bajpayee‘s career. In addition to becoming well-known because of the movie, he won numerous accolades for his portrayal of the Mumbai mobster. But because of how well-liked the movie was, only villain roles were offered to him once the movie was released. The actor refused all the rich offers and persisted in getting the kinds of roles he desired.

Together with Manoj, JD Chakravarthy, Urmila Matondkar, Saurabh Shukla, Aditya Shrivastava, and Paresh Rawal also acted in the Ram Gopal Varma movie. Anurag Kashyap and Saurabh Kashyap wrote the screenplay. The actor discussed how the movie made him popular before the premiere of his upcoming movie, Gulmohar. He recalled a shopping outing where the fans who wanted to meet “Bhiku Mhatre” were too numerous for the security to control.

The actor stated he was certain that he won’t accept any villain roles and stayed without employment for a considerable amount of time in an interview with Kamiya Jani for Sunday Brunch and The Bombay Journey. In the YouTube video, he stated: “After Satya, the industry looked at me as a new villain. I kept saying I won’t do villain [roles]. After Satya, I was out of work for eight months.”

He experienced moments of uncertainty, but he persisted. Said he, “I had a lot of offers and they were all opposite superstars as a villain. But I had thought of something else. It was tough to say no to that much of money and work. I didn’t have both before Satya, and I was saying no to both after Satya. I didn’t know whether I was right in doing that.”

After Satya, Manoj and Ram collaborated once more on Kaun (1999) and Road (2002). The actor was given the opportunity to play the lead in a few movies, including Shool (1999), Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar (2000), and Aks (2001).

Manoj is also well-known for his work in the movies Aligarh (2016), Sonchiriya (2016), Gangs of Wasseypur: Part 1 (2012), Raajneeti (2010), and Special 26 (2013). (2019). He last appeared in 2021’s thriller Dial 100 on Zee5. On March 3, Gulmohar, his upcoming movie starring Sharmila Tagore, Simran, and Suraj Sharma, will be made available on Disney+ Hotstar.
