President, PM condemn Barkhan blast

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday condemned a blast in Barkhan, Balochistan province which resulted in loss of precious lives.

The president and the prime minister expressed their deep grief over the loss of lives and expressed condolences with the bereaved families.

They also prayed for the high ranks of the departed souls and for the early recovery of the injured, President Secretariat and PM Office media wings said in their separate press releases.

The prime minister sought an investigation report from the chief minister and inspector general of police over the incident.

The president also stressed upon expediting efforts to completely eliminate terrorists.

The prime minister said that terrorists could not escape the punishment and those shedding innocent blood would be made an example.

The prime minister also directed for the provision of best medical treatment to the injured.

The local media quoting the police officials said that the explosion apparently took place when an improvised explosive device (IED), planted on a motorcycle, exploded in Rakhni Bazaar. However, they were carrying out further investigation.

At least four people died and several others got injured in a bomb blast on Sunday in Rakhni town of Barkhan district, Bol News reported.

The dead and wounded have been shifted to the hospital for medico-legal formalities and treatment respectively. The local administration has declared emergency in Rakhni hospital. The bomb was planted in a motorcycle, said the sources.

Police said nature of the blast was still being determined. They said the blast took place in Rakhni bazaar. Police have cordoned off the area and launched hunt for the culprits.

On February 8, a wanted terrorist of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was killed in a crossfire in Khanewal in a raid conducted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) to sabotage the terrorist network.
