The scandalous killing of an 11-year-old girl in Delhi’s Nangloi neighbourhood has been solved after her mother received a missed call from an unknown number on the day she went missing. The girl, who was allegedly kidnapped and murdered on February 9, vanished after leaving her house for school that morning. Her mother got the missed call around 11.50 a.m. that day, and when she called back, the number was disconnected. The family contacted the police, and a 21-year-old man named Rohit alias Vinod was arrested 12 days later in connection with the murder.
On the day of the victim’s disappearance, her parents had reported her missing, and the police started looking into the matter. Their daughter may have been abducted, so they filed a complaint and a case on February 10.
Using electronic surveillance, the police located the mobile number during the investigation and carried out raids in Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. When the suspect was interrogated after being apprehended on February 21, he confessed to the crime and said that he had killed the girl on February 9 and dumped her body close to Ghevra Mor. The girl’s decaying body was found in Mundka village by the police.
The victim’s mother stated that her daughter left for school by bus around 7:30 a.m. that day. When she did not return home until the evening, her family contacted the police and filed a report. According to her mother, the girl was the only sister among four brothers, and everyone in the house adored her.
The suspect led the police team to the location where he had dumped the body, and a forensic team was called in to investigate. The body was sent for a postmortem examination, and the accused was brought before the court and placed on police remand for questioning.
As per senior police officials, the exact motive for the killing has yet to be revealed. A postmortem examination will determine whether or not the girl was sexually assaulted. The case is still being investigated.
