KARACHI: A committee has been formed to probe into the matter of irregularities in the local government (LG) polls in Karachi.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has formed a committee to investigate the matter.
The chief election commissioner (CEC) has issued instructions that the committee will review the records and documents submitted by the petitioners, returning, and presiding officers.
He maintained that the case will be taken forward in the light of the recommendations of the investigation committee of the Election Commission.
The committee has been instructed by the commission to submit the report before February 28.
Earlier, a five-member bench chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner heard the matter of irregularities in the Karachi LG elections.
Pertinently, LG polls in Karachi took place on January 15 and the political parties including JI and PTI have reservations over the results.
JI and PTI have been claiming rigging in the electoral process as the results of the elections faced unexpected delays.
