PM reviews facilities for patients at PKLI

LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday chaired a meeting to review the facilities for modern and free medical treatment at Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI).

While talking to the participants of the meeting, the prime minister said the focus should be on reforming the system for free-of-cost treatment to poor people at the PKLI and 50 percent of patients should be provided free treatment.

He said the Hepatitis Prevention and Treatment Programme earlier initiated by PKLI should be immediately handed over to the institute again.

He directed that a fund should be instituted for free of cost treatment of needy patients and an amount should be allocated for this purpose.

PKLI Board of Governors chairman Dr Saeed Akhtar briefed the prime minister about the performance of the institute.

The meeting was informed told that work was being done to enhance the capacity of PKLI for carrying out complicated surgeries.

At present 41 percent of the patients were being treated free treatment and more than 95 percent of the patients were treated successfully, the meeting was told.

Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Secretary Health Punjab Ahmed Javed Qazi and others attended the meeting.

Caretaker CM reviews health facilities

Earlier on Sunday, Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi presided over a meeting and discussed providing quality health facilities in the province.

While directing the authorities concerned to bring further improvement in the healthcare facilities, he underscored that patients should be provided quality treatment facilities in the government hospitals as getting quality and free treatment is the right of every needy patient.

Mohsin Naqvi said that matters pertaining to treatment and provision of other essential facilities should be improved at the earliest in the government hospitals.

He emphasized that the Punjab government would continue to strive for bringing further improvement in the healthcare system.

The meeting reviewed facilities being provided in the government hospitals of Punjab. The participants put forth their recommendations to improve treatment facilities and services in government hospitals.
