Marvel’s much awaited Fantastic Four installment won’t be available to fans for quite some time, especially after it was postponed until Valentine’s Day 2025, but director Matt Shakman was able to provide some information regarding when production will begin. For his upcoming Prime Video series The Consultant, spoke with the news director, who stated that filming will begin “early next year” and that the project will be his top focus moving forward.

In the months leading up to the MCU’s first family’s reunion, Shakman has been quite active. The director took up the direction of the Fantastic Four from Jon Watts after garnering praise and two Emmy nominations for following Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) in her beautiful sitcom world. He has also been working on Legendary’s untitled Godzilla and the Titans series and Apple TV+. There, he must take on the challenging task of adapting the MonsterVerse into a ten-episode television series that will take place after the events of Godzilla vs. Kong in 2021. But he’s almost finished there, so the Fantastic Four would have the runway to themselves.

Shakman reiterated his position when asked if he intends to continue directing, adding, “In my opinion, no. I’m still working on the Godzilla project you mentioned, you know. We still have a few months left in our post regarding it. Until Valentine’s Day 2025, Fantastic Four will very much be my entire existence.”
