David Pannick to represent Manchester City once again over alleged financial rule breaches

  • Manchester City has been submitted to an independent panel for alleged financial rule breaches.
  • Pannick could earn the same salary as Kevin De Bruyne.
  • If the accusations are confirmed, the club may be kicked out of the Premier League.

Following the Premier League’s Monday filing of more than 100 allegations against Manchester City for financial rule breaches, David Pannick of Blackstone Chambers will once more represent the football team.

City, which Deloitte ranked as the highest revenue-generating team in the world last season, has been submitted to an independent panel for alleged financial rule violations that allegedly occurred between the 2009–10 season and the 2017–18 campaign.

The club’s unsuccessful appeal against the Premier League’s dispute resolution system to the Commercial Court and Court of Appeal, as well as the underlying arbitration in July 2021, were both handled by Pannick, who most recently provided advice to former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in an investigation into whether he misled parliament.

According to the law website The Lawyer, Pannick could earn the same salary as Kevin De Bruyne, the highest-paid player in City and the Premier League, at 80,000 pounds ($96,184) per day or 400,000 pounds ($480,920) every week.

City, who have won the Premier League championship six times since being purchased by the City Football Group in Abu Dhabi, would also be accused of violating regulations pertaining to the disclosure of accurate financial information.

At worst, if the accusations are confirmed, the club may be kicked out of the Premier League.
