OpenAI, which is owned by Microsoft, has unveiled a premium subscription model for ChatGPT, its text-generating AI that can write like humans.

ChatGPT Plus, the new membership option, will cost $20 a month and will provide subscribers with a variety of benefits.

The advantages include broad ChatGPT access even during busy hours, better response times, and priority access to new features and enhancements.

“ChatGPT Plus is available to the customers in the United States, and we will begin the process of inviting people from our waitlist over the coming weeks,” the company said late Wednesday in a statement.

“We plan to expand access and support to additional countries and regions soon. By offering this subscription pricing, we will be able to help support free access available to as many people as possible,” OpenAI said.

ChatGPT was made available to the public late last year.

“Since then, millions of people have given us feedback, we’ve made several important updates, and we’ve seen users find value across a range of professional use-cases, including drafting and editing content, brainstorming ideas, programming help, and learning new topics,” the company stated.

The company will shortly introduce the ChatGPT API waitlist, and “we are actively researching solutions for lower-cost plans, business plans, and data packs for additional availability.”

OpenAI has also released a new tool that can differentiate between human-written and AI-generated writing.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has announced a multibillion-dollar investment in OpenAI over a multi-year period.
