Wahab Riaz, Pakistan’s fast bowler, has returned home after being nominated to the interim cabinet of the Punjab government.
On Thursday, Wahab was appointed to the caretaker setup. After taking the oath in due course, he will assume the role of sports minister for the largest province.
He was participating in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2023 while representing Khulna Tigers.
Wahab was given the protocol of the interim Punjab administration upon his arrival at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport.
In a statement to the media on his appointment, he stated: “I am grateful for the faith placed in me. I thank the Punjab Chief Minister. It’s a long trip. I can’t put it into words. I shall do my best to fulfil the responsibility that has been handed to me.”
In 156 international games in all formats, the left-arm bowler has collected 237 wickets for Pakistan.
The 37-year-old bowler was a part of the country’s squad that claimed the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, thus it is important to note this.
The identities of the 11 members of the Punjab caretaker cabinet were verified after the appointment of Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
Pervez Elahi’s turbulent nearly six-month tenure in the top position came to an end with the dissolution of the legislature, along with his government.
On Sunday, Naqvi took the oath.
