Joe Biden says ‘no’ to US sending F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine

  • US President Joe Biden says he will not be sending F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
  • Instead, he will visit Poland, a key ally of the US in eastern Europe.
  • There are rising hopes that Biden may visit Europe.

President Joe Biden announced on Monday that he would visit Poland, a key friend of Ukraine, rather than dispatch F-16 fighter jets to assist Ukraine in its struggle against Russian invaders.

When asked by reporters at the White House if he supported sending the jets, which the leaders of Ukraine have stated are at the top of their most recent wish list of armaments, he responded, “No.”

After significant disagreements, Western countries this month ultimately decided to provide Ukraine with new NATO-standard tanks, one of their most potent weapons in traditional militaries.

The improvement in support gave Kyiv confidence that it would soon start receiving F-16 fighter jets to reinforce its own dwindling air force, although the matter is still hotly contested in the West.

There are rising hopes that Biden may visit Europe to bolster the alliance defending Ukraine as the February 24 anniversary of Russia’s invasion approaches. Poland, a crucial US ally in eastern Europe and a center for logistics and the supply of weaponry, is at the center of the endeavor.

“I’m going to be going to Poland. I don’t know when, though, “When asked about a visit, he informed the media.
