Jon Bernthal and Vera Farmiga to star in Caste

  • Caste, directed by Ava DuVernay, will feature Jon Bernthal and Vera Farmiga.
  • Aunjanue Ellis is now joined by the rest of the cast.
  • The project is being written and directed by DuVernay.

The two have boarded the film version of the well-regarded book “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents” by Isabel Wilkerson.

Along with Connie Nielsen, Niecy Nash-Betts, Nick Offerman, Jasmine Cephas Jones, and others, the film is now filming in Georgia.

Aunjanue Ellis, who starred in “King Richard,” is now joined by the rest of the cast in the starring position.

The project is being written and directed by DuVernay, who will also produce alongside longtime partner Paul Garnes.

In “Caste,” racism in America is explored along with the hierarchy that has built the nation.

After appearing together in “King Richard,” which chronicled how Richard Williams (Will Smith) helped his daughters Venus (Saniyya Sidney) and Serena (Demi Singleton) become tennis stars, Bernthal and Ellis will rejoin.

Jon described how he “fought” for a position in the movie, where he played coach Rick Macci.

When asked what attracted him to the movie, the 46-year-old actor responded, “So much. I battled for this. At first, they didn’t recognise me for it. And I wanted to do it so badly.

“What’s so beautiful about telling this story is that everybody has some knowledge of (them) – like you said, they’re perhaps the biggest sports icons alive right now.

“The script blew me away. I’m an ex-athlete, I’m raising young athletes, and I thought that this story really explored the full spectrum of youth sports and how toxic it can be.”
