KARACHI: At least 19 people including 16 children have died from a “mysterious disease” within a fortnight in Muhammad Ali Leghari Goth of Keamari district, Karachi, Bol News reported.
Dr Arif of Keamari district said it was confirmed that two of the children died from measles. It appeared as if the rest of them also died from measles, he suspected.
They were trying to determine cause of the deaths and a camp had been established in the area, where a team of expert doctors was present, he maintained.
He said the health experts were taking blood samples of the people. He said calling it a ‘mysterious disease’ was not appropriate. Soon its cause would surface, he maintained.

Illegal factories had been sealed on complaints of the local residents, as they were facing difficulty in breathing because of the smoke coming out of those factories.
Keamari Deputy Commissioner Mukhtiar Ali Abro said multiple kids and adults passed away in a week, as per the locals. The deputy commissioner said the children who died first felt pain in neck and then they suffered from pneumonia.
He said three factories which burnt shopping bags and stones were present in the area. Possibly, the hazardous smoke from the factories cause the children’s death. “The district health officer has been sent to the area for further inspection of the deaths,” he said.
