Lal Haveli likely to be vacated tomorrow morning: sources

RAWALPINDI: Evacuee Trust Property Board has reportedly sought help from rangers and police to vacate Lal Haveli, the political centre of Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Bol News reported quoting sources as saying.

The former interior minister, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and and his nephew Sheikh Rashid Shafiq have decided to protect the building. “I am owner of the Lal Haveli. This is not a property of anyone else,” Sheikh Rashid said.

Rashid Shafiq said he had directed the party workers to reach the Haveli.

Sources said the Evacuee Trust Property would carry out the operation tomorrow morning (on January 27).

On November 17, 2022, the local police had tightened the security of Lal Haveli, the residence of Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid, after receiving a threatening call.

Rawalpindi Police had received a threatening call on the official number of the Central Police Office (CPO) reporting a possible attack on Sheikh Rashid, the caller had identified himself as Irshad Ansari.

The police had tightened the security at the building, and told the nephew of former interior minister Rashid Shafiq, after informing him of a threat call.
