After learning that she had been selected for this year’s Academy Award’s Best Actress category, Andrea Riseborough expressed her surprise.

According to reports, Andrea was chosen on Tuesday to play a single mother from West Texas who won and wasted $190,000 (£154,000) from a local lottery in Michael Morris’s feature film debut To Leslie.

It is important to note that prominent stars like Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet, Jennifer Aniston, and Gwyneth Paltrow began supporting Andrea’s performance on social media before she was nominated for an Academy Award.

A few critics thought that the actress had received “recognition” from the Oscars as a result.

Andrea expressed shock over the nomination and said to Deadline, “I’m stunned.”

“I’m not entirely sure how this happened,” continued the 41-year-old.

Andrea stated, “It’s such an unexpected ray of light. It was so hard to believe it might ever happen because we really hadn’t been in the running for anything else.

“Even though we had a lot of support, the idea it might actually happen seemed so far away,” she added.

Along with Andrea, actresses Cate Blanchett (Tár), Ana de Armas (Blonde), Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans), and Michelle Yeoh were also nominated for Best Actress at the upcoming 95th Academy Awards (Everything Everywhere All at Once).
