LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry has been arrested from his residence in the wee hours on Wednesday for threatening the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
A case against the PTI leader was lodged at Kohsar police station Islamabad at the complaint of the ECP.
The PTI leader has been booked under sections 153-A (promotion of enmity between groups), 506 (criminal intimidation), 505 (statement conducing to public mischief) and 124-A (sedition) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The first information report (FIR) said that the arrest was made as Chaudhry used threatening language against the commission.
The FIR stated that Chaudhary said that the status of the election commission was reduced to that of a “Munshi [clerk]”.
The development came amid the rumours of possible arrest of PTI Chief Imran Khan last night.
Several PTI leaders have been condemning the arrest of Fawad Chaudhry and slammed the incumbent government for the move.
Fawad Chaudhry’s brother Faisal Hussain while taking it to Twitter said that his brother was arrested by unidentified people.
