Google Pixel 7 expected to have dual eSIM support

  • Google Pixel 7 owners appear to have begun to receive dual eSIM capability.
  • Google may have issued a server-side upgrade for the SIM Manager app.
  • Dual eSIM functionality for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will be available in 2023.

Google Pixel 7 owners appear to have begun to receive dual eSIM capability. With the Android 13 QPR2 Beta 2 update,  for a long time, the Pixel smartphones enabled the use of a single eSIM in addition to a conventional SIM card. This new version is believed to allow customers to abandon their actual SIM cards and use two eSIM profiles at the same time. The Pixel 7 series is expected to acquire robust dual eSIM functionality in a few months. As a result, we can anticipate more beta users receiving this feature soon.

Mishaal Rahman, Esper Senior Technical Editor (Twitter: @MishaalRahman), noticed a beta tester with dual eSIM functionality on their Pixel 7. This device was believed to be running the Android 13 QPR2 Beta 2 operating system. Another user claimed that dual eSIM capability was enabled on their Pixel 7.

Rahman claims that the Pixel 7 already supported dual eSIM profiles. Google may have issued a server-side upgrade for the SIM Manager app included with Android 13 QPR2 Beta 2. Previously, users could register numerous eSIM profiles. However, only one may be active at any given moment.

Google Germany previously stated that dual eSIM functionality for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will be available in March 2023. Rahman recently reported that Google is developing a new feature that will allow customers to simply move an eSIM profile from an old Android phone to a new one.

A new system feature may also enable users to convert a physical SIM card from an old phone to an eSIM in a new phone. Currently, Android does not support moving an eSIM profile to a new device.
