Prince Harry and Meghan to ‘miss historic Buckingham Palace moment’

  • The Archbishop of Canterbury will preside over the Coronation Service.
  • The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are unlikely to be part of the royal line-up.
  • The royals’ relationship with the Sussexes has deteriorated since their retirement from official duties.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to miss a historic moment, during the King’s Coronation.

Buckingham Palace has announced plans for the event, which will take place over a weekend of pomp and ceremony from Saturday, May 6 to Monday, May 8.

On Saturday, May 6, the Archbishop of Canterbury will preside over King Charles’ Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey.

Huge crowds are expected to descend on London for the ceremony, which will also officially crown Queen Consort Camilla.

According to a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace,”It is solemn religious service, as well as an occasion for celebration and pageantry.”

The following day, a special celebratory concert will be held at Windsor Castle, and the festivities will continue into a Bank Holiday Monday. The palace announced that members of the public will be able to attend Sunday’s celebration by voting in a ballot, with “some of the world’s biggest entertainers” set to perform.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, on the other hand, are unlikely to be part of the royal line-up on Buckingham Palace’s balcony following the Coronation service.

During the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations last summer, Harry and Meghan were not present on the Buckingham Palace balcony, where working royals stood alongside the monarch.

The ceremony was also missed by Prince Andrew, and it is expected that King Charles will follow a similar protocol and focus on working royals following the ceremony, according to the Mail on Sunday.

According to a senior royal insider, Harry and Meghan will not be included in major public appearances, including the balcony moment.

The royals’ relationship with the Sussexes has deteriorated since the Duke and Duchess announced their retirement from official duties three years ago.

The Netflix series starring Harry and Meghan, the publication of his memoir ‘Spare’ earlier this month, and the large number of promotional interviews have all heightened tensions.

It is unclear whether Harry and Meghan, who will step down as working royals in January 2020, will attend the Coronation.

The Westminster Abbey service also coincides with Archie’s fourth birthday.
