Atletico Madrid defeated Real Valladolid 3-0 on Saturday in La Liga thanks in large part to an outstanding effort from Antoine Griezmann, who helped the team get back on the winning track.
For only the second time in their last seven league games, Atletico Madrid managed to win points in the first half thanks to goals from Griezamann, Alvaro Morata, and Mario Hermoso.
Vallodolid, on the other hand, fell to 18th position with their fifth straight loss and into the undesirable relegation zone as Sevilla moved up a spot with a 1-0 victory over Cadiz.
On the other side, Atletico rises to fourth place and is 10 points behind league leaders Barcelona, who still have two games remaining.
The host team took command early on at Metropolitano, scoring all three of their goals in a 10-minute stretch.
Griezmann set up Morata’s goal in the 18th minute with a flick, before getting on the scoresheet himself with a stunning backheel finish.
The Frenchman also assisted on the third goal, finding Hermoso with a free kick. Hermoso’s header was blocked by Valladolid goalkeeper Jordi Masip in the 28th minute, but the rebound landed back at his feet and the Atletico defender scored.
Earlier, Espanyol defeated Real Betis 1-0, with Martin Braithwaite scoring the game-winning goal in the 43rd minute.
Alexander Sorioth and Ander Barrenetxea each scored once as Real Sociedad easily defeated Rayo Vallecano 2-0.
