Turkey: The burning of a holy Quran by an extremist in front of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm, which was sanctioned by the Swedish government, has been strongly condemned and denounced by Saudi Arabia.

The nation’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated in a statement that the Kingdom supports values like dialogue, tolerance, and coexistence and rejects extremism and hatred.

Turkey denounces the act

Turkish officials also denounced the Quran-burning demonstration and the Swedish government for permitting it.

“It is totally unacceptable to allow this anti-Islam act, which targets Muslims and denigrates our sacred values, in the name of ‘freedom of expression. The Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement describing the incident as an outright hate crime.

After the leader of the extreme right-wing Danish party Stram Kurs (Hard Line), Rasmus Paludan, set fire to a copy of the Holy Quran in front of the Turkish embassy building in Stockholm, the Swedish ambassador was summoned, according to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

According to the Stockholm Police Department, Paludan was given permission to hold a protest on Saturday near the Turkish embassy in Stockholm.

Turkey also announced the cancellation of Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson’s visit to Ankara, which was scheduled to take place on January 27th, in retaliation for the Swedish government’s act of granting permission for protests in Stockholm.
