Scream VI directors claim that their “relentless” style fits the new film

  • The trailer gave us a glimpse of a Ghostface killing spree in New York.
  • Gillett went on to explain the increased intensity of the sequel’s violence.
  • The Scream VI trailer also conveyed the idea that the movie will have the most deaths overall.

Another fantastic day to be a fan of horror. The Scream VI trailer was finally released after an almost month-long wait, and it did not disappoint. The trailer gave us a glimpse of a Ghostface killing spree in New York City that was bloodier, more brutal, and more distinctive. The directors of this new Scream movie, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (both of Radio Silence), have now teased it further while speaking with the news.

Gillett stated, “With Scream VI, we wanted to defy that comfortable blanket, and build something that’s grittier and rawer. Part of our job on Scream 5 was to perform the greatest hits, to truly convey that we were part of a long lineage of characters.” Gillett went on to explain the increased intensity of the sequel’s violence by saying:

“It’s relentless and really visceral. There’s a lot more of Matt and I in this movie. I think that we had to make Scream 5 in order to feel like we had permission to do this one. It has all of the ingredients, all of the things that we love about the franchise but it has an attitude that’s a little bit different. We think people are going to be really excited about it.”

The Scream VI trailer also conveyed the idea that the movie will have the most deaths overall. In response to the question of whether it would be the highest, Bettinelli-Olpin said:

“I don’t think we can answer that without a spoiler, but to jump off what Tyler just said, this one is definitely more brazen and more aggressive than the last one. So, you know, wink-wink, there’s a body count in this one…”

Regardless of how many individuals actually pass away in Scream VI, Ghostface is correct this time. This movie has a different vibe than killer. This movie is going to be a new kind of vicious animal just based on the opening scene in the trailer where Ghostface shoots the owner of a convenience store to death with his own shotgun. The anticipation is only increased by learning that this installment will feature more Radio Silence influence.

Scream 2022 was a “back to basics” film for the franchise, as the directors hinted. It had to take specific actions to satisfy Scream loyalists and give new viewers the impression that the film kept up with the series. Gillett and Bettinelli-Olpin accomplished that and more. They demonstrated that they could create a Wes Craven-like Scream movie with all the anticipated enjoyable scares and Meta satire. The handcuffs are now removed. The direction and cinematography of Scream VI appear to be the best of the entire franchise based solely on this one trailer. The director’s signature atmosphere, which was present in both Scream 2022 and their masterful horror film Ready or not, is palpable.

The internet is currently erupting with theories about this brand-new trailer. Will iconic characters like Gale and Kirby endure? Sam or Tara might be one of murderers. Is the murderer collaborating with Stu, a character from the Scream universe we believed to be long dead? Anything is possible given that the narrative of this sequel appears to revolve around a Ghostface cult, a theme that was discussed in an early draught of Scream 3. One thing is for certain, though: This will be the craziest, riskiest, and bloodiest Scream movie ever.

Along with Samara Weaving, Liana Liberato, Josh Segarra, Jack Champion, Tony Revolori, and Dermot Mulroney, who are new to the franchise, Scream VI welcomes back Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Hayden Panettiere. On March 10, 2023, Ghostface stabs New York City and makes a comeback in theatres.
