- Meghan Markle joked about Trooping the Colour ceremony, Prince Harry claims.
- The Duke of Sussex describes the incident in his new biography Spare.
- The passage has prompted discussion on social media.
The statements made by Meghan Markle’s wife concerning the ceremony, Trooping the Colour, have been revealed by Prince Harry.
In his new biography Spare, the Duke of Sussex describes the incident that occurred in 2018 during the official Queen Elizabeth II birthday celebration in June.
In 2018, Harry and Meghan joined the rest of his family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to greet the crowd of well-wishers. This was one of their first public appearances as newlyweds. The Duke reported that on the festive day, everyone had been “in a good mood, upbeat.”
When Meghan was asked by her sister-in-law Kate Middleton what she thought of the occasion, the atmosphere allegedly altered.
Harry penned: “But then: Kate asked Meghan what she thought of her first Trooping the Colour. And Meg joked: Colourful, and a yawning silence threatened to swallow us all whole.”
The passage has subsequently prompted discussion on social media, with some asking why Meghan’s jokey remark—which Prince Harry claims she made—was ignored by the royal family. One person responded by saying:”I actually thought it was quite funny! I wonder why it fell so flat,” one person tweeted, while another said: “I have no idea why they were so offended by that. I thought British people liked humour?”
