Twitter Inc. announced on Wednesday that it’s Twitter Blue subscription for Android will be $11 per month, the same as for iOS customers, with a lower annual plan for web users compared to monthly fees.
The blue checkmark, which was previously reserved for verified accounts of politicians, celebrities, journalists, and other public figures, will soon be available to anyone willing to pay.
It was launched last year to help Twitter increase revenue as owner Elon Musk battles to retain advertisers.
Twitter Blue’s monthly subscription will be available to Google’s Android users for $11, the same price as Apple’s iOS customers, according to the company’s website.
The increased pricing for Android users is likely to offset expenses levied by the Google Play Store, like Apple’s App Store.
The annual Blue subscription plan, which was available on the web, was priced at $84, a savings of $8 off the $8 monthly web subscription fee.
According to Twitter, the discount for web users will be available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, New Zealand, and Australia.
Musk had stated in December that Twitter’s basic blue tick will have half the quantity of advertisements and that the social media company will provide a higher tier with no advertisements by next year.
