LAHORE: PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi held a consultative meeting after his party membership was suspended for his remarks on a possible merger with the PTI.
PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain took notice of Elahi’s comments suggesting a merger with Imran Khan-lead PTI and suspended his basic membership.
Pervaiz Elahi, who is PML-N Punjab President, held a consultative meeting with senior party leaders and discussed the merger with the PTI. The meeting was attended by PML-Q Electoral College.
In a tweet, Elahi said the participants presented their suggestions regarding merging with the PTI. During the meeting, it was decided to further expand the consultation process before making a decision on merging the party.
Elahi said party officials will also be consulted at the district level. He said a meeting will be held with district officials, while another meeting will also be called in the Muslim League House.
They meeting comes hours after PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain suspended party membership of Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi
Elahi has been issued a show cause notice for talking about the possibility of his party’s possible merger with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat called an urgent meeting of the senior leaders, where it was noted that the Elahi did not have the authority to merge the party with PTI.
“Your [Elahi] party membership is suspended until the explanation,” the notice read, adding that PML-Q, maintains its individual identity, vote bank, party discipline, and rules and regulations.
Elahi has been given seven days to submit an explanation for the “unlawful and unconstitutional act” or else action will be him under the party constitution.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan had proposed that its ally PML-Q should merge with it. Pervaiz Elahi said they were considering it and the merger could be done within months.
He shared that PML-Q leader Chaudhry Moonis Elahi has already given his consent to the envisaged merger as it will prove to be a win-win situation for both parties.
“The PML-Q joining will further strengthen the PTI. We will continue to work and cooperate even after merging in the PTI, he maintained.
