People run away after drive-by attack in Euston

  • A drive-by shooting outside a London church gravely injured a 7 y/o girl.
  • Police suspect a black Toyota was involved in the assault.
  • Which took place during a church funeral service.

CCTV footage captures yelling people running away after a drive-by shooting outside a London church gravely injured a seven-year-old girl.

Shots were fired from a moving vehicle on Saturday afternoon near St. Aloysius Church in Euston, injuring a 12-year-old child as well as four other women.

Police suspect a black Toyota was involved in the assault, which took place during a church funeral service.

Earlier, a man was detained on suspicion of trying to kill someone.

According to the police, the seven-year-old girl’s health is still critical but stable.

The attack, which took place at around 13:30 GMT while a memorial service for 20-year-old Sara Sanchez and her mother Fresia Calderon was taking place, involved the use of a shotgun.

About 300 individuals, according to the Roman Catholic church on Phoenix Road, attended the ceremony.

Four ladies, ages 21, 41, 48, and 54, were transported to the hospital, where it was determined that their wounds weren’t life-threatening.

The 48-year-old was hurt, possibly permanently, according to the police.

Officers noted that a 12-year-old girl who suffered a leg injury was anticipated to fully recover.

The CCTV footage shows a dark car being driven down Phoenix Road and, seconds later, a gunshot noise can be heard.

Supt Jack Rowlands said on Sunday that officers “found multiple people with injuries caused by pellets from a shotgun”.

Police said on Sunday they were seeking information about a black Toyota.

“We believe the suspects discharged a shotgun from a moving vehicle, which was a black Toyota C-HR, likely a 2019 model or similar,” Supt Rowlands said.

The memorial service for Ms. Sanchez, who passed away from leukaemia in November, and her mother Fresia Calderon, who passed away in the same month, was officiated by Father Jeremy Trood.

While Ms. Sanchez’s mother passed away from a rare blood clot upon arrival from Colombia at Heathrow, Ms. Sanchez had battled leukemia for three years.

When he heard a “enormous bang,” according to Fr. Trood, the Mass had just ended and the congregation was dispersing.

“It was a very strange, long and prolonged noise I heard,” he told Media.

“Doves were going to be released at the end of the service and I think people were going out to see that.

“I remember the screams and shouts, and the people who were making their way out of the church all coming back in.

“I’ve been here nine years and I’ve never known anything like this… it’s very shocking.”
