ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the murder of former Supreme Court Bar Association (SBCA) President Abdul Latif Afridi, recalling him as a great voice for supremacy of constitution and democracy.
He said the killing of Latif Afridi was very saddening and the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should ensure to bring the perpetrator of this terrorism to the task.
The prime minister also expressed his concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said that throughout his life, Lala Latif Afridi strived for the supremacy of the constitution, democracy and law as well as for the human rights.
Recalling him as a great jurist and a brave political leader, the prime minister said he was expelled from the university after he supported Fatima Jinnah. Latif Afridi always stood for the truth regardless of its consequences, he added.
“Alas! A voice for the supremacy of the constitution, democracy and the law was silenced today,” the prime minister said and resolved that Afridi’s struggle for the noble cause would remain alive.
He prayed to Allah Almighty for peace of the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting also strongly condemned the killing inside a bar room of the court in Peshawar and said it is a manifestation of serious law and order situation in the province,
She prayed to the Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss with fortitude.
“Abdul Latif Afridi was not only a strong voice of the oppressed, but also a truthful person,” Marriyum said while paying homage to his struggle for democracy, constitution and law.
Former President SBCA and senior lawyer, Abdul Latif Afridi was shot dead in the bar room of Peshawar High Court Bar Association.
According to police, the senior lawyer received six bullet injuries and was rushed to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police said the alleged killer was arrested on the spot and shifted for interrogation. The motive behind the murder can’t be immediately ascertained.
Abdul Latif Afridi served as President SCBA, PHCBA, and as Member National Assembly. He was an expert in constitutional affairs and legal subjects. He survived several life attempts in the past and narrowly escaped.
The lawyers protested against the brutal killing of their senior colleague and chanted slogans. They boycotted the court’s proceeding and demanded the unmasking of the mastermind behind the broad day murder of Abdul Latif Afridi.
