A Waller County Sheriff’s Office news release claims that a Texas man allegedly confessed to police that he killed and dismembered his wife.
According to online court documents, Jared James Dicus was detained on Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder.
Around 4:35 p.m. on Wednesday, the Waller County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a potential death at a property in southeast Texas about an hour from Houston.
Behind the house, in a “small residential structure,” deputies discovered a woman’s body. The body had been dismembered, the sheriff’s office reported. Her corpse had been partially severed, according to NBC station KPRC 2, and blood was all throughout the house.
Anggy Diaz, age 21, was the victim, according to Waller County Judge Trey Duhon and her family.
Dicus, the deceased woman’s husband, was apprehended immediately and is said to have later admitted to killing his wife to police.
Online court records show that the suspect is being held under a $500,000 bond. He currently has no attorneys listed on file for him.
Judge Duhon recounted marrying the young couple in October 2022 in a Facebook post.
“During my short time with them, they were a very nice young couple,” he wrote. “As with many of you, I’m greatly saddened and shocked by the news of this tragic event and my prayers are with all of their families.”
Duhon stated that he removed a post that featured a photo of him with Diaz and Dicus and announced their marriage “mainly due to the harsh tone of several remarks” made on the post.
Irvan Orellana, Diaz’s uncle, created a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral costs and remembers the victim as a “daughter, sister, niece, and a friend.”
“Our family is shattered by the loss of such a young life,” Orellana wrote. “She was the light to our family and community. Always with a smile, and cheerful personality. The absence of her from our lives will be felt forever.”
The homicide is being looked into by the district attorney’s office and the sheriff’s office for Waller County.
Requests for comment from the district attorney’s office were not immediately fulfilled.
