Prince Harry’s performs Elton John song in Spare audiobook: LISTEN

  • The Duke of Sussex’s memoir, Spare, was published on January 10.
  • Prince Harry shares how he felt on the tenth anniversary of his mother’s death.
  • During one of these recollections, he narrates lyrics from Elton John’s ‘Candle in the Wind’.

Prince Harry is many things, but he isn’t a singer. It’s no surprise, then, that his decision to sing in his audiobook has perplexed fans.

After hearing the clip in The Duke of Sussex’s memoir, Spare, one person went so far as to tweet their surprise.

The book, which was published on January 10, makes several unprecedented claims about the royal family. The author also shares his heartbreak at the loss of his mother at such a young age.

The Prince delivers the performance that has since gone viral online during one of these recollections of the years since his mother’s death.

Princess Diana’s youngest son shares how he felt on the tenth anniversary of her death in one of many heartbreaking confessions in the book.

The author organised a concert in his mother’s honour with his brother, Prince William. The event raised £1.2 million for charity and was attended by a number of A-list celebrity entertainers.

But, as Prince Harry recalls in his book, there was one performance that “swept away” the brothers.

Elton John delivered a moving tribute to his late friend, Princess Diana. However, he turned down a request to sing ‘Candle in the Wind’, according to Prince Harry.

Rather than being morbid, as the Prince explained, he chose ‘Your Song’.

In the book, Prince Harry shares a few of the song’s lyrics. “I hope you don’t mind / That I put down in words / How wonderful life is while you’re in the world,” the passage begins.

When it came to narrating his audiobook, however, the Prince chose to deliver the lines with a flourish. As seen in the viral video, he sings the words rather than simply reading them, which has both delighted and perplexed many.

@Joelle o, who tweeted about the unexpected delivery, wrote: “This is why I always say get the audiobook for memoirs. Otherwise you’ll miss random gems like this… why did he feel the need to do this??”
