David Kessler, a grief and loss expert and the creator of sorrow.com, too experienced the unexpected death of an adult son. As a result of their shared traumas, they formed a friendship that eventually inspired Lisa Marie to want to help others.

Kessler described her as a “loving daughter and devoted mother,” adding that “the loss of her son pushed her to work toward being an advocate for people who are coping with the sorrow of grief.” Kessler paid tribute to the late actress on Instagram on Friday.

He added, “She had her challenges but always faced them. She was in my grief educator program and many who met her and chatted with her had no idea who she was. To them, she was a mother, whose son had died and wanted to turn her pain into purpose.”

Her priorities changed to include her family, her love of music, upholding her father’s legacy, and helping others, Kessler said, adding that the two were even considering launching a podcast together.

Additionally, Kessler gave followers information on the 54-year-final old’s days, including her recent trip to Memphis, Tennessee, where she had planned to join fans in celebrating what would have been her deceased father’s 88th birthday at Graceland.

“Last weekend was so much fun and she was optimistic,” he said, explaining that he had accompanied her to the celebration.

“Graceland was her happy place and the employees who all knew her shared that she was looking so much better. She looked more at peace and was so proud of the Elvis movie.”
