According to a specialist, King Charles uses a teddy bear to help him deal with his childhood loneliness.
Prince Harry, the second son of the King, describes how his father always has his teddy bear with him in his book.
In his autobiography called ‘Spare’, he explains: “Teddy went everywhere with Pa. It was a pitiful object, with broken arms and dangly threads, holes patched up here and there.”
Teddy expressed eloquently, better than Pa ever could, the essential loneliness of his childhood,” Harry continued.
Dannielle Haig, a psychologist at DH Consulting, says hello! How King Charles’ stuffed animal is important to his recovery.
“We often instigate lifelong coping mechanisms in childhood,” he remarked. When things are difficult or anxiety-inducing, humans often use certain behaviours to help ‘self-soothe’ the uncomfortableness.
“Some people self-soothe with drinking, smoking, food, or shopping and of course, cuddling teddy bears.”
“There isn’t anything particularly unusual about finding comfort in a teddy bear and it can be far healthier than many other ‘adult’ coping strategies,” according to Dannielle.
