ISLAMABAD: A central control room has been established in Election Commission Secretariat in Islamabad for three days as the second phase of local bodies elections in Sindh will begin on Sunday.

“The control room will start functioning from tomorrow. It will monitor the entire election process and will work round the clock until the results of the elections are out,” says the Election Commission of Pakistan spokesperson.

A senior officer from Central Control Room Islamabad will monitor the entire election process. The room will issue immediate instructions for redressal of complaints.

Apart from that the secretary ECP and the special secretary ECP will monitor the election process from the office of the Provincial Election Commission Sindh in Karachi.

He concluded his statement by saying no interference will be tolerated during polling. Moreover, immediate action will be taken against the violators.

Earlier, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Imam Memon has said the Local Government (LG) elections in Karachi and Hyderabad Division will be held on January 15 as scheduled by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The Sindh government postponed the local bodies elections due to reservations of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) over delimitations. It was the fourth time that the polls were delayed by the Sindh government.

However, the ECP rejected the Sindh government’s request to postpone the elections and decided to hold local government polls in Karachi and Hyderabad as per schedule.
