Two days after a postal worker discovered the girl’s elder sister strolling alone close to their home, a carer for a missing 4-year-old Oklahoma girl was detained, according to authorities.
Since Tuesday, Athena Brownfield has been sought after by numerous law enforcement agencies, according to a Facebook post from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
According to the OSBI, Alysia Adams, 31, was detained on two counts of child neglect on Thursday afternoon at the Grady County Sheriff’s Office. Adams was referred to as Athena’s carer, but her relationship to Athena was not made clear.
According to authorities, Adams and her husband had been caring for the two daughters. The husband might also be arrested, according to agency spokesperson Brook Arbeitman, who also stated that officials had no more comment.
Around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, a postal worker in the town of Cyril noticed Athena’s 5-year-old sister alone and alerted the police, according to the OSBI.
At a news conference, Arbeitman stated, “At that point, we knew there was another child missing.”
According to Arbeitman, the 5-year-old sister was not in need of medical attention when she was discovered and is now in state protective custody.
Few details concerning the incident have been disclosed by the authorities. Athena’s parents were they at home when she was reported missing? Arbeitman responded that the search is still on for the child.
We’ll figure out who’s accountable after we discover this little kid, Arbeitman added.
It was customary, according to Arbeitman, to search the family’s residence.
As detectives look for information concerning Athena’s location, trash pickup in Cyril, a town 80 miles to the southwest of Oklahoma City, has been postponed.
Workman stated on Thursday night that officials are still hopeful.
We’re just looking at everything and evaluating everything to see if it may help us find her, she added.
Calling the tip line is encouraged if you have any information or security camera footage that could aid in the search.
The OSBI, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, volunteers, and other agencies have searched unoccupied homes and waterways throughout the area. According to OSBI, authorities have also utilised infrared-equipped helicopters and search dogs.
A missing person ad stated that Athena was last seen sporting a pink butterfly sweater and pink trousers. She has “minimal language skills,” according to Arbeitman.
