KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after having a crucial session on the LG polls Sindh rejects the announcement made by Sindh government and directs to hold the election on January 15 – as scheduled.
The ECP has called a session today to discuss the postponement of LG polls announced late night by Sindh government.
The commission has also decided to issue a judicial order to ensure the holding of local body elections. Orders will be issued to the Sindh government and administration.
“In case of non-implementation, the Election Commission has the authority to take contempt of court action against the responsible persons.”
Earlier, in wake of the announcement by Sindh government regarding the postponement of LG polls in Karachi and Hyderabad, the Election Commission of Pakistan called a session to discuss the situation.
The session was attended by the chief election commissioner, special secretary, and other members.
Not only this, the issue of dissolution of the Punjab Assembly was also expected to be reviewed in the meeting.
Pertinently, Sindh government in a late-night announcement postponed the LG polls in Karachi, Hyderabad and Dadu and has taken the notification regarding the delimitations back.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said, “The ally – MQM – is important for us and we take them seriously, they have reservations over the delimitation so there will be no elections on January 15 in Karachi, Hyderabad and Dadu.”
