- Russia does not perceive any risks from Beijing’s easing of its Covid-19 prevention procedures.
- Russia will not impose additional restrictions on travelers arriving from China.
- The number of infections has increased last month.
According to a senior official quoted by Tass news agency on Thursday, Russia does not perceive any risks from Beijing’s easing of its Covid-19 prevention procedures and will not impose additional restrictions on travelers arriving from China.
The number of infections has increased after China last month abandoned its rigorous anti-virus policy of widespread lockdowns. More than a dozen nations have required tourists entering from China to have negative test results as the pandemic progressed.
“We do not expect any special dangers here today,” Tass cited Anna Popova, head of the consumer safety watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, as telling state television. “We are not introducing any additional measures against people arriving from China.”
Beijing removed the requirement for entering travelers to stay in quarantine on Sunday, a move that is anticipated to gradually encourage outward travel as well.
In remarks made public on Wednesday, China’s ambassador to Russia stated that his country and Russia are prepared to resume mutual travel as soon as possible and further their strategic partnership.
Since sending troops into Ukraine in February, Russia has ignored Western countries and courted China, a long-time foe and a rising global power.
